Rio+20, Will We Achieve Global Justice?

Last week Sustainability Consult attended a conference on 'Achieving Global Justice in the Green Economy', done within the context of the upcoming Rio+20 conference.  Stressing the importance of social equity and world justice as a global concern, the heated debate emphasised the polemical Green Economy concept, the existing economic chasm between Northern countries and most of the Southern hemisphere and the lack of political will to make necessary changes.

Will Nuclear Power Europe's Future?

Last night’s Debating Europe debate on the future of nuclear energy in Europe raised many interesting issues that Europe will have to consider in tackling its energy needs. Moderated by Gilles Merritt, Secretary General of Friends of Europe, the panellists were Patrick Moore, arguing in favour of nuclear energy, and MEP Jo Leinen arguing against.

Making a Low-Carbon Fashion Statement

Leading by example, students at London’s Kingston University have put the spotlight on the fashion industry’s high environmental footprint. The students put on a fashion show, timed to coincide with Paris Fashion Week, where the luxury clothes, shoes and accessories on display were made solely from biodegradable materials.

Will Rio+20 Push Companies Towards Sustainability Reporting?

The Corporate Sustainability Reporting Coalition (CSRC), an organisation coalition convened by Aviva, is urging UN member states at the June Rio+20 to develop and commit to a global policy framework for sustainability reporting.  This position was reinforced on Wednesday at the debate 'Can companies be more sustainable? An opportunity for change at Rio+20' at the European Parliament, hosted by Parliament Magazine.
