1/ Chez Franz
On the corner of Rue Franz Merjay, Chez Franz is the closest bar to our office and has a terrace twice the size of its bar. Packed out on evenings and at the weekend for brunch, it's not easy to get a table in the summer at this hipster spot.
Plasch on Place Brugmann is a trendy bar and restaurant in the French bistro style, complete with slightly aloof waiters. The terrace is covered over when it rains and has blankets and (environmentally-unsound) outdoor heaters for cooler evenings. One of the summer specials is a deliciously simple artichoke and vinaigrette.
3/ Walvis
The very funky Walvis is in Brussels centre near to the canal. Barbara reports that they have friendly staff, good veggie options and excellent aubergine lasagne.
Get outside into the beautiful surroundings of Parc d'Egmont and have a bite to eat at this gorgeous orangery.
Set in the Bois de la Cambre park, Le Chalet Robinson is accessible by boat. Built in the style of a Swiss chalet, have one too many in this charming restaurant and you may start singing 'The Hills Are Alive'.
