Ocean Acidification, the Other CO2 Problem

The debate around global warming was revived this week when formerly sceptical climate scientist, Richard Muller, confirmed in his recent study from the Berkeley Earth Project that global warming is caused by human activity.  But increased carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from our use of fossil fuels have another serious consequence.  Meet ocean acidification, the other CO2 problem.

Communications Survey Finds Low Take-Up of Social Media

The European Communication Monitor 2012 is the latest research about communications management and public relations worldwide.  Carried out by the European Public Relations Education and Research Association (EUPRERA), the European Association of Communication Directors (EACD) and Communication Director Magazine, the research aims to highlight the challenges and competences required in communications and PR.

Is A ‘Green’ Olympics Even Possible?

A report launched on the eve of the London 2012 Olympics has somewhat deflated claims made by British Prime Minister David Cameron and London Mayor Boris Johnson at the World Economic Forum in Davos earlier this year that the 2012 London Olympics will be “the greenest held to date.”

Will the Economic Crisis Impact Sustainability in Greece?

The risk that environmental programmes and sustainability initiatives be postponed due to the crisis is strong and nowhere less so than in Greece where environmental initiatives have been put on hold.  The government justifies this break as a consequence of the present economic crisis.

Apps for a more sustainable world?

Since the boom of the smartphone started, a huge number of smart applications or Apps have arrived on the market. We wanted to share the list of sustainability-related Apps compiled by treehugger and Apps for the environment from the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC).  One of our favourites from this list is ‘Gardening Toolkit’ which teaches you how to be a good gardener.  It finds where you live, gives suggestions for the best plants to grow in your area, helps keep track of what you have planted and gives tips for beginners.

A Quick Run-Round of Rio News


The UN's Rio+20 United Nations Conference conference took place in Brazil last week, the 20-year follow-up to the Earth Summit which first put sustainable development on the global policy agenda. Expectations were low in the run-up to the Rio+ conference as high-profile leaders Obama, Merkel and Van Rompuy said they would be staying home to deal with the economy and in Obama's case, forthcoming election campaign. At election time in the US, it usually doesn't pay too look too 'green'.
